LawPLUS Peer Mentoring Program

LawPLUS is the Society’s own Peer Mentoring program for undergraduate students. First Year law students looking to meet new friends are grouped with other members of their cohort, as well as two mentors in their second year or above. Scab notes off your mentors for the entirety of your degree!

I’ve been very lucky to have been both a mentee and mentor before, and I can honestly attest to useful the program can be; from being able to get your bearings to asking all those crazy questions you are too scared to ask lecturers.
— Ganeshmoorthy Chandrasekaran, Undergraduate Commerce/Laws (Past Mentee)
Upon arrival as a first year, my relationships were limited to my school mates, LawPLUS was a great opportunity to meet other first years and the older group leaders. My mentors were happy to help use tackle our first law assignments and uni life in general.
— Ashton Cook, Undergraduate Commerce/Laws (Past Mentee)

International Students

Connect Buddy Programme

The Connect Buddy Programme is a peer-mentoring program aimed to help international students adjust and transit into the life at UNSW Law. We will match new international students with a local or international student in later years to help them with the social, academic and mental aspects of their life at UNSW Law School.

For mentors, it is a chance to learn about another country’s culture and make some international friends from a country you are interested in. It is an opportunity to develop leadership skills, personal and professional life skills while gaining that sense of satisfaction and achievement by assisting the new students.

Stay tuned here and on our UNSW LawSoc Facebook page for application announcements.

T3 - Mentoring Program

The JD/PG Mentoring Program is a peer mentoring program designed to assist new JD and PG students in making a successful transition into law school. Its aim is to promote a holistic approach to law school by providing weekly group meetings with more experienced students. This allows new students to seek advice, interact and learn from their peers.

New students will meet their mentors on a weekly basis and the sessions will be catered to your needs. It is an opportunity for you to ask questions and seek advice from more experienced students. It also provides a valuable opportunity for you to create strong social ties with others, both in your year and in the years above.

My mentors shared their personal experiences with us as well as useful tips and resources on how to get through law school. It was nice to know there was someone who could relate with my problems and give advice. Also, that one hour’s meeting gave us a chance to unwind and make social connections, during a very busy first semester.
— Penseng Wang, Juris Doctor (Past Mentee)
My mentors not only became my friends but also helped me learn how to handle the stress and made me feel confident. Most importantly, I knew someone had my back.
— Zheng Liu, Juris Doctor (Past Mentee)
