Skills

The Skills Portfolio’s aims to provide opportunities for students to develop and refine legal skills which are practical and transferable for any career path. To achieve this, the Skills Portfolio runs both internal and external competitions in four key areas. Negotiation challenges your problem solving and on-the-spot thinking skills and gives you the chance to pair up and be ‘the best closer UNSW has ever seen.’ Client Interviewing, also in pairs, lets you interview a prospective client with an eye to both develop a relationship and uncover the holes in their story. Witness Examination allows you to channel your inner Atticus Finch 1v1 against your peers: yelling ‘objection!’ while you’re put to the test of running cross-examinations, opening and closing statements. Finally, Mediation, which is like Negotiations, is based on a process where a dispute between parties is facilitated by a neutral third-party.
