Social Justice
The Social Justice Portfolio has three distinct aims: instigating positive law reform through advocacy, supporting our diverse community of students, and providing practical and engaging volunteering opportunities/events. It retains a steadfast commitment to upholding the value of inclusivity, stemming from promoting social equality in law school for the rights of our Indigenous, culturally diverse, LGBTQIA+, and non-cis men communities. Broader issues of advocacy regarding asylum seekers, homelessness, disability, and incarceration are often addressed through policy submissions to government. Initiatives that this portfolio has engaged in include: LGBTQIA+ Moot, Social Justice conferences and social events, networking and educational opportunities for women and culturally diverse students, and publications such as the Court of Conscience. Overall, the Social Justice Portfolio seeks to act as representatives for marginalised students and provide them with support networks to make law school a more inclusive place which celebrates their diversity.
