The Private Law Careers Portfolio serves to support students throughout their degree who are interested in pursuing a career in private law.
Events
The portfolio liaises with our various sponsors to organise skills workshops, networking opportunities and other major events throughout the year. These events aim to place prospective students in the best position to secure a clerkship or career in private law more broadly.

Firm Presentations and Skills Workshops
The Firm Presentation series invites our corporate sponsors to speak about their firm and career opportunities available for students. Don’t miss this invaluable opportunity to develop your professional skills, understanding of the private law industry and knowledge of specific law firms!
Skills workshops aim to give students tips and information to assist them in various stages of the clerkship application process and will feature topics such as interviewing skills, cover letter/CV and commercial awareness.
Workshops are delivered by representatives from a sponsor firm and hence are tailored to the application process of the presenting firm, but are relevant to job applications in general.
Students can apply the skills they learn at these workshops in the clerkship application process and in their future careers.
These workshops will allow all students regardless of their degree progression to be exposed to the opportunities at each of our sponsorship partners.
Clerkship Buddy Program
The program is an excellent opportunity for penultimate year students to build a relationship with a mentor who has successfully undergone the clerkship process. This program will serve as a platform to answer any specific questions you have about clerkships. Please note that both the Launch and Closing events are compulsory in order to participate in the program.

Looking to land the dream job you’ve always wanted? Well look no further, UNSW Law Society’s holding our annual Private Law Careers Fair where you’ll get the exclusive opportunity to speak with firm representatives and get ahead of the curve to score that elusive clerkship.
The Careers Fair is open to all students from all years, and you’ll get to talk to firm representatives about clerkship, graduate and pre-penultimate programs so lock the date in your calendar and keep your eyes peeled for more information coming down the track!
Clerkship Cocktail Evening

The annual Clerkship Cocktail Evening is a fantastic networking opportunity for penultimate students to meet firm representatives and talk about their career options and the upcoming clerkship process over some drinks.
This event typically reaches capacity so register quickly to ensure you reserve your spot. Any registrations after capacity is reached will be put onto a waitlist. Penultimate students will be prioritised.
