LawSoc Band Auditions This Week
Written by Robin Chen
Tuesday, 09 March 2010
If you're interested in becoming a part of the LawSoc Band and haven't yet contacted the Music Director, here's your last chance! All the relevant details are here. Email Seph at if you'd like to audition.

Date and Time

Auditions are next week on Thursday 11th March from 4-6pm and Friday 12th March from 2-4pm. Choose whichever day is more convenient for you and email with your choice. If you need a specific time, let me know and I'll do my best with the scheduling. Each audition shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Preparation
Please prepare one piece for each instrument you play or if your two instruments coordinate (e.g. guitar and vocal), feel free to do the one. Make sure that the piece really shows off the range of your ability so we get a good idea before making our decision. For vocalists, you'll need a backing track. You can just use the normal song and sing over the top if necessary. I'll be bringing my speakers so just send me the song by Wednesday and I'll put it on my iPod.

Location
Music Room 3, Level 3, the Squarehouse. If you need directions, let me know and I'll email them.

Rehearsal Times

We'll be rehearsing weekly on either Thursday 4-6pm or Friday 2-4pm depending on which is easiest for everyone. If you're not available at either of those times, there's not much point in auditioning unfortunately. When you email me with your audition times, it'd be great if you can let me know which audition time is better for you or better still if you can make both times.

For further detail, please email me at or give me a call on 0414 300 389.

Want to become involved in the UNSW Law Society? Get a chance to network with members of the judiciary, government and academia? Develop your teamwork, communications, time-management, organisation and leadership skills?

Become a Speakers' Forum volunteer!
The Speakers' Forum is a division of the UNSW Law Society Education portfolio that organises a variety of discussion panels, key note lectures, workshops and other events that serve to bring insightful and high profile speakers from within the legal profession, politics, and academia to the UNSW Law School. Past speakers have included the Hon. Michael Kirby (former justice of the High Court of Australia), the Hon. Murray Gleeson (the former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia), Stephen Hopper (lawyer formerly representing Guantanamo Bay detainee Mamdouh Habib) and prominent academics in areas such as climate change and international law.

As a volunteer, you can take on as large or as small a role as you wish. The amount of time you wish to dedicate is entirely up to you. No experience is required. Some typical activities include:

• Research into topic areas of law and potential speakers
• Drafting letters, correspondence to speakers, and media releases
• Organising publicity materials
• Event management duties: liaising with law building staff, caterers, etc.
• Volunteering for Speakers Forum information stalls.

Everyone is welcome! Simply send an email to the Speakers' Forum Directors stating your availabilities and areas of interest.
